Comics and there characters are basically the basis for so many top cartoon series and films, even Transformers in the early days purchased designs from various other avenues and ideas , i have had a fair few toys that were pre transformers that became transformers such as not so well robot toy line of the early 1980's called converters

Basically Hasbro and Bandai in the early 80's bought up designs from various company's not as popular as well as getting rights to make toys from comics such as the Gundam toy line which has become massively popular recently worldwide not just in Asia were its big big for many years,
America (the old china) which is famous for taking ideas for many of the classic Japanese lines tend to reboot these characters tinker with them change title names.

I think the modern day term is white washing them...and now china is doing the same with rest of world lol. so many comics anime are copied a lot so amazing how many fakes and copies of products can be found in this area of collecting some collectors like collecting these oddities but beware if you not a collector of fakes.....be sure you buying the genuine article. for example i have a huge collection of Gundam figures in storage but non are branded by Bandai but are infact made by little white dragon, (Chinese bootlegs basically) and
